Unique local insights

Baclayon Church built in 1727 is one of the best preserved Jesuit built churches in Asia.

The traditional practice of making Asin Tibuok , an artisanal sea salt from Alburquerque, Bohol, Philippines, was inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding on December 9, 2025. This marks the first Philippine traditional food-making process included in the UNESCO ICH list.

Bohol Bee Farm in Panglao is unique for its immersive, eco-friendly, cliffside setting that combines organic farming, sustainable living, and a, “farm-to-table” dining experience. It is famous for its unique homemade ice cream with organic flavors like malunggay, spicy ginger, and tomato, served in cassava cones.

Bohol Bee Farm Ice Cream is largely vegan-friendly, as it is made with coconut milk instead of dairy, and served in gluten-free cassava cones. It is marketed as a, creamy, and healthy dairy-free, soy-free option. However, it is important to note that the ice cream is sweetened with honey, which some vegans do not consume.

Raffia loom weaving is a thriving traditional industry in Bohol, particularly in Tubigon and Inabanga, using fibers extracted from the local buri palm. Artisans, often organized in cooperatives like the Tubigon Loomweavers MPC, hand-weave these sustainable fibers into textiles, mats, bags, and home decor, supporting local livelihoods.

Kalamay of Bohol is a famous, sticky-sweet delicacy made from ground glutinous rice, coconut milk, and brown sugar, often enhanced with peanuts. Originating from the town of Jagna—known as the “Calamay County”—this traditional treat is famously cooked for hours until thick, then served in emptied coconut shells (baongon) sealed with a red, signature band
